Comunilife Donor and Web Visitor Privacy Policy
Updated July 2026 · Originally adopted May 2019
Comunilife, Inc. is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to provide vulnerable communities with housing and culturally sensitive supportive services. We are committed to the vision that no one should be without the housing and supports they need to lead a healthy, meaningful life.
We are committed to protecting your privacy. To enhance your experience on our websites, Comunilife.org and comunilifelip.org, (the “Sites”) and to gather some information about the kind of visitors using the Sites, we occasionally ask for information about you. Below you will find the description of the instances when the Sites request information from the user and how this will benefit the user. This policy also outlines our donor privacy protocols that enable you to securely and confidently support Comunilife.
Comunilife, Inc., 462 7th Avenue, 3rd Floor, New York, NY 10018 (“Comunilife,” “we,” “us”), is the entity responsible (the “data controller”) for personal information collected through the Sites, including any successor or redesigned versions of the Sites.
1. Information We Collect
Depending on how you interact with the Sites, we may collect the following categories of personal information:
- Contact and identity information — such as name, email address, postal address, and telephone number, when you subscribe to communications, complete a form, respond to a survey, apply for a position, or contact us.
- Donor information — such as your name, contact details, and giving history. We do not process credit card information on the Sites; payments are handled by third-party payment processors under their own privacy policies.
- Demographic information — such as zip code and age, if you choose to provide it in a voluntary survey.
- Internet and device activity — such as IP address, browser and device type, pages viewed, referring pages, and approximate location derived from IP address, collected automatically through cookies and analytics tools described below.
We do not knowingly collect sensitive personal information (such as government identification numbers, precise geolocation, biometric data, or health information) through the Sites, and we do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.
2. Registration
Registration is not necessary on our Sites.
3. Email Alerts and Notifications

As with all information we collect from you, we will never sell this information. Comunilife currently uses Vertical Response for distribution of alerts, e-blasts, etc. Their Privacy Policy can be found at www.verticalresponse.com/content/pm_policy.html.
4. Surveys

Participation in these surveys is completely voluntary and you may choose whether or not to participate and therefore disclose this information. 5. How and Why We Use Information; Legal Bases
By providing information about yourself or your organization on our Sites, you are giving consent to use this information internally. We use personal information to operate, secure, and improve the Sites; to send the news, alerts, and solicitations you request or that we reasonably believe interest you; to process and acknowledge donations; to respond to your inquiries; to comply with legal obligations; and to protect our rights and the safety of our clients, staff, and visitors.
For visitors located in the European Economic Area (EEA) or the United Kingdom, our legal bases for processing under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and UK GDPR are: your consent (for example, for newsletters and non-essential cookies), which you may withdraw at any time; our legitimate interests in operating a secure and effective website and communicating with our supporters; performance of a contract or steps taken at your request; and compliance with legal obligations.
6. Cookies and Similar Technologies
The Sites use cookies and similar technologies. Essential cookies are necessary for the Sites to function. Analytics cookies help us understand how the Sites are used so we can improve them. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
Visitors from the EEA or the UK will be shown a consent banner, and non-essential cookies will not be set until consent is given. You may withdraw or modify your consent at any time through the cookie settings link on the Sites. All visitors can also control cookies through their browser settings; disabling essential cookies may affect Site functionality.
7. Analytics
We use Google Analytics™ to understand aggregate visitor trends. Google Analytics is a web analytics tool that helps website owners understand how visitors engage with their website. It is configured to avoid identifying individual visitors and reports website trends without identifying individual visitors. Google’s ability to use and share information collected by Google Analytics about your visit to the Sites is restricted by the Google Analytics Terms of Use and the Google Privacy Policy. You may opt out of Google Analytics measurement by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on, available from Google.
8. Disclosure of Information
Comunilife will not sell any information collected on our websites. We do reserve the right to release information you have submitted when law, regulation, or judicial or administrative process requires such release.
9. Service Providers and Other Recipients
We share personal information with a limited number of service providers who process it on our behalf and under contract — including our website hosting provider, email distribution platform, analytics provider, and third-party donation processors — and, where required, with legal or regulatory authorities. We do not sell personal information to anyone. Program, client, and patient records are governed by separate confidentiality obligations, including HIPAA where applicable, and are not collected through or covered by the Sites or this website policy.
10. Links to Other Sites
Our Sites contain links to other websites. We are not responsible for the privacy practices or the content of such websites.
11. Your Rights Under U.S. State Privacy Laws
As of 2026, twenty U.S. states have comprehensive consumer privacy laws in effect. Some of these laws exempt nonprofit organizations, but regardless of exemption Comunilife voluntarily extends the following rights to all visitors, wherever located:
- Right to know and access — you may request confirmation of whether we process your personal information and a copy of it in a portable format.
- Right to correct — you may ask us to correct inaccurate personal information.
- Right to delete — you may ask us to delete personal information we hold about you, subject to legal retention requirements.
- Right to opt out — of the sale of personal information, sharing for targeted advertising, and certain profiling. Comunilife does not sell personal information or use it for targeted advertising.
- Right to non-discrimination — we will not discriminate against you for exercising any privacy right.
To exercise these rights, contact us using the details in the “Contact Us” section below. We will verify your identity using the information associated with your request and respond within 45 days (extendable once by 45 days where permitted). An authorized agent may submit a request on your behalf with proof of authorization. If we decline a request, you may appeal by replying to our decision; if your appeal is denied, you may contact your state Attorney General.
12. Universal Opt-Out Signals
Where required by law, the Sites recognize universal opt-out preference signals such as the Global Privacy Control (GPC). Because Comunilife does not sell personal information or process it for targeted advertising, such signals do not change how we handle your data, but we honor them as an expression of your preferences.
13. Notice to Visitors in the EEA and the United Kingdom (GDPR)
If you are located in the EEA or the UK, you have the right to request access to, rectification of, or erasure of your personal data; to restrict or object to its processing; to data portability; and to withdraw consent at any time without affecting prior processing. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection supervisory authority.
The Sites are operated from, and personal data is stored and processed in, the United States, whose laws may differ from those of your country. Where we transfer personal data of EEA or UK visitors, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as standard contractual clauses or transfers to service providers certified under the EU–U.S. Data Privacy Framework. To exercise any of these rights, contact us using the details in the “Contact Us” section below.
14. Children’s Privacy
The Sites are intended for a general audience and are not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13, consistent with the U.S. Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). If you believe a child under 13 has provided us personal information, please contact us and we will delete it. We also do not sell the personal information of, or serve targeted advertising to, any visitor we know to be under 18.
15. Data Security
Comunilife maintains reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect personal information against unauthorized access, use, alteration, and destruction, consistent with the New York SHIELD Act and other applicable laws. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
16. Data Breach Notification
In the event of a security breach affecting your personal information, we will notify you and the appropriate regulators as required by applicable federal, state, and (where relevant) EEA/UK breach notification laws.
17. Data Retention
We retain personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this policy, to comply with our legal, accounting, and reporting obligations (including donor records we are required to keep), and to resolve disputes. When personal information is no longer needed, we delete or de-identify it.
