Vida Guidance Center: Outpatient Mental Health ServicesOpened in 1994, the Vida Guidance Center provides culturally-competent mental health services to the residents of the South Bronx and other underserved communities. The patients, who are predominantly low-income and Latino, have a range of serious psychiatric disorders. The Center’s approach successfully engages children, teens, adults, seniors and families who would otherwise be culturally pre-disposed to reject mental health diagnoses as stigmatizing, and clinical interventions as frightening, cold and invasive. The Vida Guidance Center, which provides more than 16,000 outpatient visits a year, supports clinical attendance and medication compliance rates that are above those usually found in this population and successfully enables deeply fragile individuals and families to move towards greater resilience, stability and health. The Vida Guidance Center is located at: 4419 Third Avenue, Bronx, NY. |
