On April 8th, more than 100 City and State appointed and elected officials, community leaders, friends, colleagues and peers came together for the Ribbon Cutting and Grand Opening Celebration of the El Rio Residence, Comunilife’s new 65 unit apartment building in the West Farm neighborhood of the Bronx. 39 units are designated for New Yorkers’ with special needs and 26 units are for low-income residents. Dr. Rosa M. Gil, Comunilife’s President and CEO said in her remarks “We remain strong in our commitment to increase the number of supportive housing units available for the most vulnerable populations. El Rio Residence is a major step as we continue to provide new, safe and affordable housing options for the people most in need.
Joining Dr. Gil at the Grand Opening were representatives from El Rio’s partners including NYS OTDA Commissioner Samuel Roberts, Bronx Deputy Borough President Aurelia Greene, NYC HPD Assistant Commissioner Jessica Katz, NYS OMH Associate Commissioner Moira Tashjian, NYC DOHMH Program Director Rebecca Sievers, Bronx CB #6 District Manager Ivine Galarza, Richard Roberts – Managing Director of Acquisitions, Red Stone Equity Partners, CSH Executive Director Kristin Miller as well as David Kriegel of Gran Kriegel Architects and representatives from Fazio Construction. Also taking part in the program were Assemblyman Luis Sepulveda, members of Comunilife’s Board of Directors and a building tenant.
