On Friday, October 30th, 380 friends and supporters joined Comunilife in raising more than $245,000 for Life is Precious™, the agency’s ground breaking program suicide prevention program for Latina teens in New York City.

In her remarks, Dr. Rosa M. Gil, Comunilife’s Founder, President and CEO said “We are here to celebrate the lives of over 3,000 New Yorkers that we serve annually but in particular the teens in Life is Precious™… We now offer the Program in the Bronx, Brooklyn and Queens and despite the odds, the girls are making remarkable progress as noted by Columbia University researcher’s findings that show that the level of suicide ideations decreases when the girls participate in the LIP Program for a month. We are on the road to develop sufficient empirical evidence for Life is Precious™ to become a community evidenced based practice model to be replicated throughout the country.”

Taking place at the Marriott Marquis, Comunilife continued its tradition of honoring individuals who are committed to Comunilife’s mission and the New Yorkers it serves. The 2015 honorees included: Josefina Carbonell, former US Assistant Secretary for Aging and current Senior Vice President at Independent Living Systems LLC, NYC Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito, Dr. Ramanathan Raju, President and CEO of the New York City Health and Hospital Corporation.Mathew Wambua, former commissioner of HPD and current President of Richmac Funding LLC.
