COMUNILIFE’S 24th ANNIVERSARY BREAKFAST
On October 4, 2013, a record 360 business, civic, educational and community leaders joined Comunilife’s Board of Directors, Corporate Advisory Committee and staff at its 24th Anniversary Breakfast, to celebrate the achievements of and raise money for Life is Precious™, a program that reduces suicide among Latina adolescents.
During the Breakfast Comunilife presented five awards to individuals and companies who share the agency’s belief that housing is a social determinant of health and that reducing health disparities both through affordable housing and access to culturally appropriate health care is necessary and at a minimum what New Yorkers deserve. Community Impact Awards were presented to: LaRay Brown, Senior Vice President, Corporate Planning, Community Health and Intergovernmental Relations at the New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation and DePuy Synthes CMF, a subsidiary of Johnson and Johnson. Three Corazon Awards were presented to Lisa Gomez, Executive Vice President of Development at L + M Development Partners, William Traylor, President, Richman Housing Resources, and Deborah VanAmerongen, Strategic Policy Advisor at Nixon Peabody LLP. Odalys Molina from Telmundo Nueva York served as the Mistress of Ceremony.
A highlight of the morning was a performance by the girls from Life is Precious™, which showcased their musical talent and the skills they acquired through their creative arts therapy activities which were primarily funded by a $50,000 grant from Assemblyman Felix Ortiz and the New York State Assembly.
