At the invitation of Bronx Assemblyman Peter Rivera, Comunilife participated in Bronx Unity Day, a celebration of the diversity and services that

make the Bronx unique. After being greeted by Assemblyman Rivera and other friends and officials, Dr. Rosa Gil, President and CEO, took the

opportunity to introduce her two newest programs, "Life is Precious" and "Proyecto Vida" to their Bronx constituents.

Bronx Unity Day marked the first public outing for the two new programs and both seemed to be a big hit with the crowd, with informative

brochures and flyers scooped up at a rapid rate . The "Life is Precious" program was created at the request of the New York Community

Trust to address the problem of Latina Teenage Suicide. (One in six Latinas between the ages of 12 and 16 will attempt suicide, making them

the group with the highest suicide attempt rate in the nation, according to the Center for Disease Control. In New York City, the number is

even higher!) Launched in May of 2008, the program is housed at our Boston Road location in the Bronx.

"Proyecto Vida" is the grass roots, information and education program launched by Comunilife in July, 2008. With the assistance of a Coalition of

community stakeholders, "Proyecto Vida" aims to provide information and education to the general public as well as gathering corporations, community leaders, families and teens together to become part of the solution to the Latina suicide crisis.

Thanks to Assemblyman Rivera's invitation, word about these two very important programs as well as the wide range of programs and services offered

by Comunilife, including housing for those with HIV/Aids, the homeless and chronically mentally ill and our outpatient mental health clinics were made available

to the public.

HOPE TO SEE YOU THERE NEXT YEAR!!!
